Default Need help with my Moser 9"

Okay so i just got a moser 9" from my buddy. It has 3.90 gears. It whined a little in his car so he reset the backlash to about 15 thousandths. We put it in and it whines wayyyyy worse. So we had to of set something wrong. We are pulling the housing off on Sunday but for now i want to know what kind of locker i should get. I daily drive my car and the rear has a full spool in it and i want it gone. Also, i want 4.10 gears so how do i know what gears to get exactly? just any set for a 9" or is there specific ring and pinion to a moser 9"? And what brands are good? I see some cheap Gforce lockers but i am on an extremely tight budget so the less money i blow the better.

Most of the Moser rears with spools will have 35 spline axles, and unless you replace the axles this will eliminate most of the differentials that are available. The first thing to do is to find out the spline count on the axles.

Motive Gears are affordable http://shop.brutespeed.com/Moser-09F...er-09F411M.htm and strong. Bob

Thanks for the reply Bob. I wasn't aware of that. I will pull the Axel out today after work and find out the spline count.

I think for posi type diffs you can shorten the axle and it'll work. Not a fan of the spool? I have one and makes it feel like a racecar I love it!

That kind of confused me lol don't know a lot about rear ends sorry. And I like it sometimes but for my daily it gets annoying because I live in the middle of town. And I don't want to tear up my tires. But I do love that car car feeling for sure lol

If it has 35 spline axles the only differentials that will work are a locker and Wavetrac. The 35 spline axles are physically larger in diameter. Bob

Good deal, you could go with a Trac-Loc. http://shop.brutespeed.com/Moser-5TL...er-5TL9F31.htm The Trac-Loc's are good for around 500 rwhp and are reasonably priced. Bob
