Default Rear end w/ 3.42 gears from Firehawk questions!!!

I have a busted rear end (From all the whining it does). My car is a '99 T/A with 2:73 gears A4. This guy in town is parting out a 10th anniversary 2001 Firehawk. He's selling an entire rear end for $350; my question is will it work for an auto even though it was meant for a T-56? The post clarify's in the following: Auburn SLP Posi Rear end with disc brakes 3.42 (4 CH w/ traction control and abs): $350

My conclusion is will this work for every day driving?

if you have a 4 channel rear (traction control) it would be a good upgrade for you , his asking price is a bit on the high side though unless the car has low miles.

your tune will need to have the data for gear ratio changed in the speedo tab , very easy likely someone local would do it for you for cost of credits ($100) and a gift of beer , pizza ,etc... lol

Your 99 came with a Torsen posi, the 01 was upgraded at SLP from a Torsen posi to an Auburn posi. Changing from 2.73 to 3.42 will increase torque to tires by 25%,a good increase. $350 is a bit high, even for the upgrade of an Auburn. Before computer correction for the ratio change, speedo will show 75mph when the actual is 60mph.

Above info is correct. Under your circumstances id probably buy it if the abs matches up.

Yes, I do have traction control (NW9 or 4 channel locks) and abs brakes. The mileage of the car is 96K miles at the time of the wreck so I don't still if $350 is still to high? I've seen some rear ends with abs and traction control with 130K miles or more sell for $450 or more.

seen them sell for $450 and more when someone is IN NEED of one, seen them sell for less then 200 when nobody needs them. the last three 3.42 4 channel rears I sold for 125 each.
according to your posts,it comes with brakes, does that mean rotors AND calipers ?

I believe it does have calipers; if it dose not wouldn't I be able to use the same rotors and calipers I have off of my car? Or it's a completely different size? I just don't want to buy something and it does not match or bolt up at all or being able to driven every day with having problems.

rotors and calipers are same, just would be better to get some 'extras' for the price.
if/when you do get it,removal/installation is simple,I'm 68 and I do it alone. there are a few threads in this forum about how.
you'll like the change from 2.73 to 3.42 as an everyday driver,I had 4.56s' with A4 as an everyday driver for 4 years.

You guys, I don't think I'm gonna go for the Firehawk rear end mainly because it's 3 and half hours a away (Los Angeles). I made another thread about a 10 from a '02 Camaro SS that I'm considering on jumping on plus, it's actually here in Las Vegas.

With wearable clutch cones in that Auburn, they aren't as likely to get past 100K miles as the Torsen.
