Default LS1 m6 with 410s worthwhile ?

Hello Everyone,

My other LS1 is a black 2002 M6. Is it worthwhile to upgrade from 342 to 410 gears ?...........And due to this is an 02 car, is this a standard 7.5 -10 bolt ?
I'm not sure.

Yes the stock rear for your car is a 7.5" 10 bolt, and weather you should do the 4.10's or not depends on your mods and goals

The 410 gear swap would be the only mod.

In that case I'm not so sure I'd do it. I mean it will be snappier and whatnot, but with stock power it's not gonna be a great overall improvement

If you were doing a heads/cam or even just a cam swap I could justify swapping gears depending on the size of the cam but for gears only with no other mods, kinda seems like a waste unless youre having problems with the rear end and it needs a rebuild anyway. Just my .02

Your car will feel a lot more peppy instead of being lazy.
Even the GTO 5th & 6th gearing is a plus as they make those gears more usable.
You don't need a power upgrade to enjoy.

Even getting the engine tuned would make you happy

Trex,
4.10's and headers/exhaust are the 2 biggest bang for your buck mods for your car, and a torque arm relocation crossmember, gotta save that tail shaft housing from cracking. Now your 10 bolt might not last as long or it may be fine. Gears are definitely worth it, if you want even faster acceleration go 4.30's or 4.60"s, keep in mind you will be shifting faster and gas mileage will suck. Had a friend back in collage running 4.60's, headers with Borla catback and that car was fun to ride in on the street! It would run mid high 11's on slicks and race gas, not bad at all he also had an s60 though. Don't expect the 10bolt to last very long with 4.60's launching on slicks to be honest.

Get those 4.10s put in and have fun man! You will also need to tune for them and the modding bug should have you for your m6 car, once you start it's hard to stop!

3.90 is thr better choice. They are stronger. If you must have 4.10 then look for a 4.11. The 4.11 is stronger due to less teeth on the ring gear which in turns makes them stronger.

WHAT A LOAD OF BULLSHIT.

4.10s are no weaker, they are just a different cut.

Waste of money, been there done that. So many other things to spend $500 on than a gear swap in a rear end that's worth scrap metal.

At relatively stockish power levels 4.11's basically made my 1st gear obsolete in normal driving. Other than a slight reduction in fuel economy I enjoyed it though. Granted I was coming from a 2.73 sitting behind an a4 to 4.11's behind an m6 which was a massive step up

4.10s will add lots of seat of the pants feel. If done right I believe the rear is just as strong as stock due to fresh bearings and tolerances.
