As mentioned in an earlier thread I've posted, my 10-bolt is likely toast. Not that toast is a bad thing, especially with some good blackberry jam, but it doesn't quite work for a rear axle.
Therefore, I'm stuck with trying to determine my next, best course of action. I'm heavily leaning towards the Strange S60. My only drawbacks are:
1. I know it's heavier. For drag racing, that's not a terrible thing, other than more weight to move. However, several posts mentioned the negative aspect of having an S60 and doing some road course racing. I would like to know if anyone has a before and after using an S60 on a road course.
2. Loss of power. There's an article floating around about the S60 (plus 9") being less efficient than the 10 bolt. While I agree, has anyone really noticed that their car seems less powerful? Is this just a dyno-thing and not so-much real world loss? Any quarter mile time comparisons that someone slowed-down?
3. More of a question on gears. I'd really prefer 3.90's, but Strange doesn't offer that ratio. So, either 4.10's or 3.73's. I rarely drag race, but will take it to the track more now that I am not afraid of breaking a 10 bolt. So, are 4.10's too much at the track with a 26.1 diameter tire? Is 3.73 noticeable better on gas economy? This is my daily driver, driving 50 miles to work and back.
Lastly, any general opinions on the S60 would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

i had an s60 with 373s on a basic bolt on car. the 373s was a little bit of a noticeable difference. i just got a 9 inch and got 389s because i wanted an even bigger difference. 389s are real good on the streets. personally wouldn't go higher. its nice because that awkward spot where 5th seems too high an 6th seems too low, M6 car around 55-60 mph and 342s, that weird area is gone. 2000 rpm in 6th gear is 78.

I have an S60 and love it. I went from a 10 bolt with 2.73s to 4.10s and don't regret it.
Mine is A4, and I'm taching 6200 rpms at 111 mph. That's with a 6.5% converter slip and 26.1" et streets. That's an efficient converter, if your car is manual obviously you'll be able to mph higher.
I chose 4.10s because mine is a weekend car and sees lots of dragstrip time... no roadcourse.
My converter locking in overdrive tachs 2,000 at 55 mph, so it's not bad at all.
My previous best with the 10 bolt with stock gears was 12.29 with bmr chromoly torque arm, lca's, and panhard bar. When I swapped to the S60 I added Vikings, bmr anti roll bar, and wilwood brakes. Now I run 11.90s pulling a 1.58 60' with a stock ls1... even ls1 intake. The car feels much more stable and doesn't have that slop and sway typically associated with f bodies.
And don't worry about the weight... swap to lighter brakes and driveshaft and that will help to make ot up. I also went with any lightweight option I could... like lighted axle flanges.

I highly recommend the s60. I have it in my car and love it. It is very quiet and bolted in very easily. If you decide to pull the trigger on it get a new driveshaft as well.
FWIW I have it with 3.73s and my car has a cam and 3600 stall, so nothing crazy. I got mine from Carl at CRP a few years ago and he was great to deal with.

Thanks to everybody that replied. I ordered the S60 from Carl. Went with the 3.73 gears. Will be purchasing a new driveshaft as mine probably won't work even if shortened. Waiting to install the rear and take measurements before ordering. Likely going with a PST from Mid-West.
