Moser 12 bolt, Street?
I was looking on thunderracing for a new rear since im starting to have a one tire fire. I found the moser 12 bolt and see it had all kinda of options like to keep c clips. What is the pros and cons of c clips. I see they say no c clips for the strip and keep them for the street. I daily drive my car and it see the track once in a while. Then i see people with problems with 12 bolts. My car is having a 383 put in this summer so im not to sure if the 10 bolt is up to the task. I wont be using slicks maybe a et street but doubt it. Im not a track guy. I was gonna just put in a eaton posi new moser axles weld the tubes and throw on a rear girdle/cover on the 10 bolt and keep my 2.73 i like them on long trips. Would i be asking for a disaster either way?

there is no such thing as a "bulletproof" 10 bolt. Some people go 10s on a 10 bolt. I didn't make it out the 12s. No matter how much you build it up it is still crap. Do yourself a favor and only build another rear one more time. Your question should be 12 bolt or 9". I vote 12" based on the info you provided. And you don't want c-clips.

cool thanks. I know its a noob question but what are the "c" clips for anyway. I have never taken a part a rear to see. If i dont know what im doing i pay someone else thats probally why i have no clue.

C Clips are little C Clips that keep the axles from sliding out of the housing. If they break, you may see a wheel and axle pass you right before you feel the car drop down onto the housing.
My suggestion:
Moser 12 bolt with the Truetrac with 3:73 gears (no c clips...)
Moser 33 spline axles
Moser ABS or ABS/TCS
Moser Performance Cover
$2,350.00 plus freight collect shipping Bob

Sounds like a good deal. I will be ordering from you soon. Your price is great. I am thinking in a month or so i will have enough to get the rear some bmr springs and some of strano's konis. I will just have to figure out if i want the 12 bolt or the 9 inch your prices are pretty close i might just go all out.

Moser 9 inch. I hear of too many problems with the factory moser "set up" With the 9" you can have several 3rd members so you can have multiple gear ratios. You could have one with a spool and one with a limited slip, one 4.30 and one 3.42 . Plus, when it comes to service you arent setting up gears under a car, your doing it on a bench. Just my $0.02 Plus the 9" is stronger. Get 31 spline axles so you can still yank 3rd members out of broncos and ford trucks. CHEAP!

One thing I really do like with the Moser 9 inch is that it reuses the oem 2 bolts for the torque arm mount. The Moser 12 bolt uses four short bolts, instead of the two long bolts. The Moser 12 bolt requires loctite to be used on the four bolts, as they will work loose. Not a real problem once you use loctite on them, but I do prefer the way Moser does it with their 9 inch. Bob

Also, does the 9" keep ABS?

The Moser 9 inch can be had with ABS/TCS, but not with just ABS. Most people who have only ABS just do without it, removing the ABS parts from their cars (weight reduction)... With ABS/TCS, the 9 inch with a truetrak is $2,500.00 shipped, about the same price as a Moser 12 bolt after shipping is paid for. Bob

Have you weighed both by any chance?
I would figure the gears are easier to setup on the 9", at least from the pics that I have seen. This assumption correct?
