Default 12 bolt to 9" driveshaft question.

I have a strange 12 bolt in my car right now, and i'm getting a th400 setup from my friend who's running a 9" in his car.

We're both running a 1350 yolk. My question is will his driveshaft mating his th400 to his 9" fit when I put it in my car and try to mate it to my 12bolt?

length wise will be the issue. I think if anything it will need to be shortened, but I dont know....

little help please?

thanks!!

The 9in is usually 1in longer then a 12b shaft. I would measure what distance you need and go from there. Check that shaft in your setup and see if it needs shortened or not. The rake on the LCA's make a differance as well.

My driveshaft is stock with a 443 conversion u joint and my LCA's are non adjustable. So how far the car is lowered takes a play also?

whats the best way to measure? just compare the two shafts?

is lenthening or shortening the shaft costly?

lastly... does the th400 change the driveshaft length? can you even use a stock length shaft th400 to stock rear / 12 botl?

thanks, big help.

the best way to measure is to install the yoke you are gonna use into the back of the trans and bottom it out. measure center to center of the u-joints and subtract 3/4 inch.

cut and rebalance a shaft is usually 75-100.

Cant you pretty much say... you have non adjustable LCA's a th400 and a strange 12 bolt, your driveshaft length will need to be X?

I would say it would be 47.00" but I would certainly get a measurement based on the chart I posted. Bob

I guess Ill have to do that...

Maybe i'll try the one he give me first though. How far should the splines be going into the trans?

I was hoping to just have it all ready to go once I got the motor in, but I guess its not that easy.

What do you guys normally do? pull a string across and then measure it?
