it makes it "stronger", it pushes everything in and makes it so the **** can't wiggle and move. However it is like putting a band-aid on shotgun wound.
the issue is gear size, there is no way of getting around the fact that the pinion and ring gears are too small

What are the two advantages of a girdle
1) Pressure on caps.... It that point I ask, why would you put pressure on caps?
2) holds an extra quater of a quart of lube... What advantage does this have?
Your putting excess of 300 horsepower to a rear designed for 140 horse power monzas. The rear itself was not designed to handle the amount of power it is given in a LS1 car. GM did not want to invest money to AAM on engineering, tooling, R&D to maybe have a rear that didnt whine or cause other problems that they would have to warrenty for a 4 year stint. The engineers at GM made a judgment call and assest risk involved with leaving a axle insufficent to handle the power of the engine, built torque managment into the PCM and implemented 2nd gear lock outs to avoid failed rear ends. We remove these safe guards and modify our engines to create more power and although we would like to believe a girdle helps us, it simple will not. But go buy it if you really want it. I even have one that some one gave me, i put it on, cause it looks cool, i however would not have bought it.

let me put it this way; i priced out a new carrier, axels w/ c-clip elimination, TA cover, and having it welded. It came to about +/- $1,500 just in parts. Would it "help", yes, it will make it "stronger", but think of it like using glue to build a lego house; yes the lego house will be stronger but it still won't survive a hit with a hammer, which is what the rear of our M6's go through when we shift that bitch.
Bottom line is the size of the gears, the only solution to that problem is a new rear, all the "strenghtening" in the world won't do a bit a difference. Put that $1,500 towards a rear that will last you.

Does it strengthen it? Yes, I think it does. It serves to relieve and distribute the pressure on the caps, which in theory makes it a bit stronger (only a bit).
Is it worth the money? That is up to you. My rear has held up to 400+ rwhp for over 10k miles with the TA girdle and stud kit. Is it a grenade waiting to explode? Certainly.
