Default Camaro SS torque arm

I have a stock torque arm on my 2000 SS and it's undercoated on one side of it. Nothing else under the car is undercoated, and no overspray. Is this from the factory to somehow strengthen the torque arm? I'm just curious about this.

Mine was bare (black paint) from factory. Maybe previous owner
busted the first one and it's a boneyard swap.

Undercoating doesn't make metal stronger, it just help to resist rust/corrosion and deadens sound.

A very likely possibility.

I've owned two of these cars brand new ('99 and '00), neither came with any undercoating on the torque arm.

The car is stock so it didn't bust from strain on it.

It's an original GM torque arm with the part # on it, I pulled it off to fix my pinion seal leak. It has undercoating on the driver side of it. I may email the guy I bought the car from and ask what the deal with it is. I'm stumped. Nothing else is undercoated.

I'm very willing to bet its built up grime from grease, road dirt, oil from a leaky 10 bolt spraying everywhere.. Mine had gunk built up on it, that you could say resembled undercoating, but easily scratched off

No, but I thought it was when I pulled it off. I took it to my auto class and tried to get it off in our solevent tank, nothing. There's also tape lines where the bolt holes are. The stuff is probably 2mm thick. Plus it's only on one side, the other side is factory black painted.

I'd say it's caked on road grime. I've seen a few of these like this right before I scrapped them.
