Default Swap to auto and regret it?

Anyone do this?

I am probably starting a project soon, and the trans could go either way. I have had three manual f-bodies and a manual vette, and I love it very much

However, sometimes I want to just go to the track and hit the gas, not worry about clutches slipping or glazing, hydraulics screwing up, etc. Plus I do drive in a lot of heavy traffic, it would be slightly nicer (although my left leg is quite beefy from the spec stage 3). I'm just afraid if I commit to an auto I might regret it... but then of course, transmissions aren't permanent

Has anyone swapped to an auto or bought an auto f-body and regretted it?

I've owned 5 F-bodies. Every one up until now was an automatic. I wish they ALL had been manuals. Heavy traffic, difficulty launching... doesn't matter to me. The sheer thrill of shifting my car makes up for all of it. Just my opinion.

^^^I'm with him. My Z is an auto, didn't want to buy it because it was an auto but I couldn't find a manual car anywhere and the deal was too good to pass up. I've got a 3600 stall and still wish it was a t56 car--if I can ever afford the swap I'll do it. Autos are just too boring to me unless it sees the track more than the street. Thank goodness my truck has a muncie 4 speed!! Talk about a heavy clutch, nothing like manual linkage with a 3 finger pressure plate...I love it.

I bought my car because it was an auto (could've gotten a manual cheaper), now I wish I did get a manual just for the fun factor. Then again, driving in traffic is a breeze.

I like driving my POS neon which is an auto. But it really makes me miss my WS6 M6 which is in storage for the winter Please do what ever it takes not to convert a manual to an auto. Manual screams sports car, especially a 6 speed!

in the end i think youll like the auto more, you can get a better time out of it if you go as far a straight strip car.....also considering you have several other cars that are stick, if you can always go back and forth...a good built and tune A4/A3 is a great transmission....several good sponsors on here...

Auto is fine if all you do is take it down the 1/4 mile or simple want to operate your car instead of drive it. I'm swapping to a t56 because after owning 2 cars ('95 FWD Eclipse and a '98 Neon) with sticks, going back to the GTA with the auto just sucked. It was never in the right gear and was always either shifting too early or too late for what I wanted. Now I'll be able to put it in the gear I want and have a lot more fun doing it.

I have a manual now and I will probably be going TH400 in the future. I don't think a manually shifter auto would be that much worse. Sure I will miss the patented roll back and all the other little quircks or a manual...but eh...

My first LS1 car was an A4. I wanted a m6 but had a hard time finding one that I wanted when I bumped into my previous car. I kept it from May of 03 til Jan of 05 and got rid of it to buy my current car, which is a m6. I couldn't be happier. If I want to drive an auto I'll drive my Z-71

My only regret was I didn't go with an A4.

Well, I bought my car because it was an auto as well. M6's were cheaper but I got burned out the last 9 years owning a Saturn that was a M5 and honestly, I got real bored with it.

Most of my miles are strictly highway miles, like 3 miles of my 25 miles each way commute is city. And it's better to be lazy and not have to deal with the auto, then NOT have the auto and have a bad day at work, and get stuck driving the stick home. Eh, just my opinion.

I have and STILL own one of each. Especially if you are keeping the Vette go auto.

There is no feeling quite like leaving off idle and getting a 1.50 60' time.

What are your overall goals for your new project?

I LOVE my stick lol. My daily driver Neon is an auto and sometimes I catch myself trying to push the clutch in. The Camaro is just for weekends and occassional track so I love the 6 speed. Easier to launch an auto, but once I get a 12 bolt and some slicks that factor is gone

I've had both.....M6 is always gonna be more fun, but a stalled A4 is no joke. I have considered swapping to a M6, but I hate to think that I will be so much slower than this car has the potential for right now. Granted, the times in my sig are before the Yank, but I know it's a hell of a lot faster now. And once you throw a TC in there, it is quite a bit more fun to drive than a stock TC. This car went .1 faster at the same MPH in the 1/4 mile than my '00 SS...and I could drive the SS just fine.

Previous Car was a `94 Formula Auto, I was really happy with it. Then I heard about the LS1. I ordered my `98 Formula with and M6 (no cost option)
and never looked back. I've driven friends cars with auto's and I must say it is a disappointment to me.
