Default whats the difference between the 01 and 02+ z06 vetts?

my bud is looking at a zo6(c5 style). he noticed the 01's seem to be around 4 to 6K less money, but the 02's +have the 405hp rating. whats the diff-between the 01 (385hp)and other years w/the 405hp rating?
thanks, mike c.

The cams are different. They were targeting 400+hp and on the first try they fell a little short. So, the beefed up the cam a little IIRC.

I was told the exh-manifolds and induction system was all. Is the cam different? Anything else?

Heads cam and I think the block is diffrent also.
the 02+ is the way to go if he can unless he is going to modded it (change the block)

I believe that the cats or something in the exhaust is better on the 02+ which enabled a better cam and more power. Which is not a big deal if he is planning on modding it anyway. But some of the 01 (not all) were recalled because they burned oil and they had to be reringed, that is why most people shy away from the 01's. If he buys a 01 he needs to check it out to see if it is burning oil or if it has been fixed under recall.

The 02 has a bigger cam with .550 lift. Bigger intake opening. Descreened MAF. No pup cats. 02-04 had titauim exhaust. Not sure for 01. 04 had better shocks. I'm sure there is something else I am forgetting.

Guys, there is a lot of mis information in this thread!!!

The blocks and heads were the SAME!

The intake valves on the 02-04 were hollow, sodium filled

The 01s had blue springs ( like the hotcam kit)

The 02s had yellow springs

03s+ had metal colored springs with an orange stripe.

The 01s had a smaller cam, 02s had a larger cam and a better "tune" to get to the 405 ( its the same PCM, they just changed the tune)

There were no pup cats on any of the Zs

The manifolds were the same

They all had Ti catbacks

01s had a ring issue, and had a re-ring recall on them

01s did not have the HUD

Mid 03 and all 04 had top mount, c6 style fuel systems, C6 water pumps, battery systems, ect.

This thread is old, but I gotta look out for Mike C.

I had a 2002 Z06 before I bought my house. I would advise him to get the 02+ to avoid the 01 ring issue. Plus the HUD is awesome!

A long time mechanic of c-5 vettes says some of the Z06 vettes burn oil, he says buy a C6 400hp (non Zo6) LS2, spend a little more and be safe... thats just his opinion, he works with this stuff daily...
