Default Replaceing Oil Pan Gasket?

My 02 z28 is leaking oil around the rear of the oil pan. I was wondering what i have to take off to get the oil pan off and the gasket replaced. I was kinda hoping someone who has tackled this job before could give me some insight on what i need to do and the steps to doing it? Pictures would be nice if availible. Any advice, warnings, and comments are appriciated Thanks!!!

Mine does the same thing. It really ticks me off. Judging by the above post (which was great), its not worth it for me to fix an oil pan gasket that leaks maybe 1 or 2 drops between oil changes even though it seeps like crazy. It doesnt hurt performance but it sure hurts resale value and makes the undercarriage a little filthy.

I would change the rear main seal while you're there, too.

You need to pull the trans to do that...if you're just changing the oil pan gasket, the transmission doesn't need to come out.

So basically you have to drop the whole front suspension

Anyone know how much a shop would do this for?

I had the same situation. Oil pan seeping, not really a leak. Made the undercarriage dirty. In looking at how much a PITA it is to replace the gasket, I just consigned myself to cleaning the underside of the car every couple months. However, just for ***** and giggles I changed my oil with some Valvoline Max-life. I mean they say it helps old valve seal so what the hell, you know. Well, boom....no more seepage. I only left used that Max-life for one interval, and it still doesn't seep anymore.

You serious birds of a feather? What weight of Max Life do you run? What brand/type and weight of oil did you previously use? If its as true as you say it is, I'm going to try and hopefully have the same results.

I'm dead serious. I only used it for 1 interval, Valvoline Max life 10w-30. Ran it for about 3500mi, changed the oil, and no more seepage. That's been about a year ago and still no seeping oil. I normally run 5-30 Synthetic Valvoline. It is worth noting from some training I have had, at least in industrial applications, Synthetic oils leak past sealing surfaces easier than conventional petroleum oils.

Yeah but he needs to verify it is not the rear main though.
