Pressure switch or low pressure will do it. Depending
on model year you may have a switch, or a sensor that
the PCM looks at and does the pressure-check function.
So will an unstable idle; suspect this if you can get A/C
to kick on at cruise, but get A/C cycling or surging at
idle.

well the obvious is... Is there refrigerant in the system?? If there is not, the compressor wont turn on. Also the pressure switch may be bad. You can "jump" it, by unplugging the connector to the pressure switch. Then take a cotter pin and stick it in the harness to complete the circuit through the cotter pin, it should kick on, or at least the secondary fan will turn on, if it does not, you need a new pressure switch.

You stick a wire from one side into the other is what he is saying, to check the compressor itself run a negative and positive wire off the battery and touch the contacts on the compressor itself it should kick on immediately

ok if there is one were is it there are only two wires that go to the compressor and that is power. autozone repair guide shows the switch on the back side of the compressor on a 3.3L engine not 5.7L. I also look at a new compressor for my car and it has no place for one on the back side of it.?????????????????
