Default check engene soon light

I just bought this car (2000 convertible trans am 80k). So far I drove it for around 30 miles. Today the check engene light went on (steady light). What do I need to check. Is there a way to reset the computer to turn it off. I tried to disconnect the battery for a few minutes but that didn't work

You're not really thinking about this the right way. Putting the light out wont make the PROBLEM disappear.

Take your car to an autozone or advance or Napa or whatever and have them scan the code for you with a hand-held tool. They do this for free. That'll give you an idea of what the problem is.

It means there's something not right, I had mine deleted and it came back less than 60 miles later. Mine is because of a bad knock sensor/circuit. But it may be as simple as O2 sensors if you get the code read.

My car runs the same and gets the same gas mileage so for now its not worth $600+ to have a shop figure it out and fix it.

A constant SES light indicates that one of the sensors in emissions system has detected a fault. Blinking SES light = bad. Did you just fill up you car and possibly not click the fuel cap three times? That will get you an SES light.

I have been using 93 gas, so far on my third tank. I cleared the enegene light and its not comming back. I guess the previous owner of the car used cheap gas. Went to inspection center and my car passes
