Default Window motor and/or regulator

I've owned by car for almost 2 years now, the passenger side window has always been slow and once in a while would stop just short of sitting flush when I was putting it up, reaching over and using the passenger control, in some cases I had to open the door, would bring it up the remaining distance. The other day my girlfriends dad put the window down about half way and when he went to put it up it went up a little but then stopped farther down than normal. Once I parked he opened the door and had to pull it with his hand to get it to come up all the way. I'm planning on ordering parts either Dorman or ACDelco replacement from rockauto, but I don't know if I should get just the motor or if I should get the regulator w/ motor...does it sound like I'll need a regulator too or should I get some just in case, or will just the motor do the trick?

Just the motor... More than likely you'll also have 1 or 2 broken felt window guides.

Not really - they look like this...

Kinda pricey for what they are. I would reommend you take the door panel off and look before buying anything.

I wonder if that is considered mounting hardware...The AC Delco piece on rockauto doesn't say "hardware not included" like the Dorman does.

Thought about it but if the motor is dead then it isn't going to do anything anyway.

Exactly!

Go with the Dorman all the way. There's no guarantee a Delco will be 100% new, either. The Dorman design is improved over the original design - a relic from the 60's.

The problem is a thermal cutout inside the butt end
of the motor. You have to pull & reinstall, I soldered
some fat wire across mine and put it back. While you
are in there, grease up the tracks.

How hard is it to replace the window motor??? My drivers side is a PITA and makes me upset all of the time. I am just afraid to change it and mess something up.

Here's the instructions I used:

http://shbox.com/page/windowmotor.html

I went with a new ACDelco motor from Amazon -- $28 shipped!

ACDelco 88960088 Chevrolet/GMC Front Power Window Regulator Motor : Amazon.com : Automotive ACDelco 88960088 Chevrolet/GMC Front Power Window Regulator Motor : Amazon.com : Automotive

It's really not a bad job at all following the instructions above. The worse part is all of the SMC dust when drilling the holes. Otherwise, not an issue

Those that went Dorman, is this the model number Dorman 742-101?

Or if I need regulator and motor - 741886 and 741887
