Default Motor Oil

I have a quick question, how many quarts of oil does the LS1 take, i'm gonna go buy some, but dunno how much exactly i will take.

actually, the LS1 takes 5 1/2 quarts of oil. putting 6 quarts of oil in the LS1 is overfilling, unless you use the larger K&N truck filter that holds more oil. then 6 quarts can be used. in many cases, it could be worse to run too much oil than not enough. i know this holds true for transmissions, when the increase in pressure can actually do more damage than a small decrease in pressure.

hasnt hurt me by puttin in six, with a LS1 size oil filter

It takes 5 1/2. I usually put in about 5 3/4. I just keep checking the dip stick until its at the right level.

lol, i was about 5-1/2 to 5 3/4 yesterday, but that was after draining the oil for 2 hours

Yep, 5.5 with the stock length filter or 6 if you get a longer one like the K&N HP2006.

It states 5 1/2 quarts with a filter change in the owners manual. Putting in more than about 5 3/4 quarts is definitely overkill, its not good for the motor to have too much oil in the crankcase.
