Default coolant leak or evaporating?

I did a flush in July and I added coolant a couple of times to get it to level off. I haven't checked it since August and I did last night. I had to add a small amount to it. It right above the full cold and the engine was warm. It was about 3 bars lower than it was in August. Is it possible to have something to do with the cold weather change that I lost a small amount? I put new hoses on in July also. I can't find a leak there and there is none on the floor. Can it evaporate some?

it could be that you had a bad cap....or had some air in the back of the block when you filled it up the first time.....girl...you keep coming up with problems...whats the deal?

Get a coolant pressure tester, just use that and you will see if there is a leak, also you should smell something sweet.

if not then your fine.

You should not be losing any significant amount unless..like he says..cap is bad or a leak.

Does your windshield occasionally mist up on the inside for no apparent reason...?
If so it could be from the heater core leaking (where the tubes crimp onto it).

every few days or so i have to top my coolant level off. there are no visible leaks that i have seen. no drip marks on the ground or anything. i saw this thread like 2 weeks ago and thought it might be the cap, but i dont see any drip marks where the cap is. i fear it being a head gasket but then again it would be smoking out the exhaust a lot. it only smokes out the exhaust when it is cold out now. if anyone has any suggestions it would greatly be appreciated.

I only have to add a small amount every few months. I am going to keep an eye on it. The oil does not show any coolant in it so I think it is okay.

Check for telltale orange coloured "grease" on anything below your water pump (e.g. on the engine pan bolts)... if you see this, then the water pump weep hole is emitting coolant.

This is a silly question but did you all check your overflow tanks for correct operation or leaks?

No, coolant will not evaporate if mixed properly.

I checked the overflow and everything else for leaks. My overflow is brand new. When I bought the car 6 months ago there was hardly any coolant in the overflow. I flushed everything out and put fresh in. The guy had the car 3 years and he never checked or added any coolant. That is why I flushed it out and started over. I will continue to watch the level.

Wow he had the car 3 years and never checked the fluid... That would never fly with my dad around. Growing up all we ever heard once a week was, "did you girls check your fluid levels this week in your cars? It became such a common thing, that I do it all the time now. That's how I discovered my Saturn had a cracked cylinder head... A mechanic for a father can save your @ss in the end.

I check my fluids all the time too. He hardly drove the car. He drove it 4000 miles in 2 and a half years.
