Default UPDATE misfire cylinder #8

does this infact work to unhook the positive cable for like 30 min to erase the SES light? i had a fault wiring on my 02 sensor bank 1 and i rewired it and fixed it. this is the second time this has happend. and my car started running really rough the first time. and it began to do it again. esp on idle and slowly moving oyu can feel the car pulse/ and even the exhaust note is different. though the first time i rewired it i crossed wired the 02 sensor lol.

and my car got all wierd when i was driving the ses would flash and when i was stopped it would just stay on lol. so i def knew i had messed up the first time.

anyhow. just wanting to know if un-hooking the battery for a time will erase the code and make the light go off.

Unhooking battery power will reset the PCM, not sure on the time though. If you don't have any other way to reset it try:

Turn key on, don't start car
Pull PCM BATT and PCM IGN fuses in engine compartment
Wait 5-10 min
Turn ignition off
Replace fuses

No tools required. After resetting PCM it will have to relearn idle and be grumpy. Some codes set immediately, some only after X amount of ignition cycles.

You only need to pull the neg cable. I had mine off for about 20 hours and it reset everything.

Default more issues

well i went to get my car scanned just to make sure the o2 sensor was still the only thing wrong well...... it wasnt

these were the original codes
P0134 o2 sensor no activity bank 1 sensor 1
P0135 o2 sensor heater circiut malfunction bank 1 sensor 1

now i got a P0308-cylinder 8 misfire deteced
and a P1133-fuel air metering

the guy at advance said the o2 sensor issue cannot cause a misfire. he said it could be a loose plug wire or a bad coil. well i checked all the plug wires they seem tight and im assumign the #8 plug is the on on the passenger side at the back? it seemed secure also.

a week ago my car was running normal and just 2 days ago began to sputter alittle and run rough. it did this before when i had an o2 sensor issue but this is the first time ive gotten a misfire code.

im thinking of just buying new front o2 sensors and buying some o2 extensions with them.

NOTE: i only have the front 02 sensors. my car was tuned and the rear sensor are shut off and have had no issues with them.

can the 02 sensor cause all these problems im seeing now?

Unhook both battery terminals and touch them together, this will reset your PCM.

I recommend the bosch o2 sensors for the corvettes. Part #13111 I had extensions on my original o2's for about 9,000 miles before they went to ****.

This works. The PCM stores power for a short time in several capacitors, that given a certain time period discharge on their own. Or, you could force the discharge with a low resistance short circuit. But ideally you should go one step further, and leave a large load on, like the headlight circuit, to give the small charge stored in the PCMs capacitors a place to harmlessly go.

Unhook both battery terminals and touch them together,
I do this alot at work. I have had no problems doing this. Alot of manufactors tell you to do this for certain PCM updates after programming and such. I actuatly do this about every 6 mths on my vehicles to make them relearn how i dirve.

I just unplugged mine again for an hour and my light came on once I started the car up. Might be a sensor issue. I heard if I unplug the 02 sensors themselves and see if the light goes away then I know my problem, that true? Because it came on 50 miles after my header install.

If the light came right back on you have a hard fault, which should make things easy to diagnose. And disconnecting the O2 sensors will just cause the PCM to set several more dtcs, illuminating the MIL. And coming on after the header install means nothing. It could be a coincidental code, or something related to the header install, like a misfire, lean code, O2 sensor code, AIR code, EGR code, etc etc.

I got it scanned today, all 4 of my o2s werent functioning right.

P0133
P0134
P0135
P0147
P0154

Im gunna give it another week then i'll replace the front 2. The headers have about 100 miles on them now, they should be getting broken in. For the rear ones ill just get it tuned out since they dont effect my mpg.
