WTF is this part?????? NEED help.
I was changing my LCA this past weekend, when I noticed this part.
It's located at the back of the car
I took it to auto zone, but they didn't know what it is.
Took it to chevy dealership, they didn't know waht it is
It's both sides that look like crap, but I can't replace them if nobody knows what they are.
Now, are they need it or can they stay of the car??? Don't know what purpose they serve
Sorry for the crapy pics. phone camera.
Thanks for any help...

If your car came with 17 inch wheels those look to be Jounce Bumper spacers. The jounce bumper (also known as a bump stop) mounts to these. They provide the extra suspension travel your car needs with larger wheels.
I dont agree with tossing them. They are there for a reason. You can by new bump stops....they mate to the spacer which in turn mount to the car.

do not throw those out! there are for a reason. they are an inexpensive item to replace. plus GM changed them to a better and more durable bumper. Just wait for the time you hit that axle housing without them and you put them right back on.

GM is too cheap to ever put a part on a car that isn't needed.
They aren't gonna spend one cent extra they don't have to.
Every part has some function and/or is required by law.

Well, now I'm more confused...
Are they needed or are they not???
But now that I have a part name for them I'm going to go buy them and put them in.
Thanks for the info...

I have my new to me 02ws6 in the shop right now for inspection. My car was missing these parts and they are required for inspection in PA. I think it was 114 bucks to get them replaced at the shop.

almost every car made GM or others employe these type of bumpers. The new redesigned ones from GM are somewhat yellow and do not come apart like the previous black "rubber" ones from the earlier years. I paid $19 for each one from the dealer.
