Angry Lost keys and new ones dont work?

So I lost my key being the dumbass that I am, but thats not the point..

I got replacement keys this morning and the door key works but the ignition does not.

I called the service guy at the dealership and he said that I have to call a locksmith to come figure out the frequency of something?

If anyone knows if this is true or not, feel free to comment.

I would love to be able to drive to work.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like someone used the wrong VATS key pelet value. Who made the new key? Does it turn the ignition on but not turning over at all? The dealership should've been able to give you the right value, and/or reprogram the BCM to recognize the new resistance key OHMS if they did it.

Fuller Chevrolet in Rincon, Georgia if that helps.

The lock does not turn at all. Doesn't move one bit.

He said something about the ignition cylinder being replaced?

The dealership should have done it right the first time, take it back to them and talk to the service manager.

I talked to the service manager. He was the one I went through to get my key.

He just told me to call a locksmith to find the frequency for my new key.

**** my life.

OK, if it won't turn at all probably not VATS only. Sounds like they're saying they cut the right key, correct value from the factory but the lock cyl is bad or something got changed somewhere along the line and it's not original - was it working perfectly before you lost the keys? They should've been able to fix it IF they had the car. I'm assuming you went in with just your VIN and had them cut new keys.

Edit: If the pelet value (1 of 15) was wrong the key should still turn, but give you the SECURITY light.

yes it was perfect before i lost the keys. sometimes the key was little hard to pull out, other than that it was good.

and theres no way of getting them the car, i bought the car used and only had one set of keys. and yes i went in with the vin number.

yes but the key didnt turn at all.

I called a local locksmith he quoted me 175-200 bucks to get everything right again.

Man. Well, you could have the car towed to them and have the dealership take care of it, or have a locksmith do it. Only one set of keys is a no no for sure.

Yeah man I know. I got a quote from two different locksmiths in my area and they've ranged from 125-200 clams.

I'll try calling the dealership and seeing if they could reset the code for me if I had it towed to them, would that be a good idea?

Not sure of the capabilities of the locksmiths, but if they can do everything from 125-200 that's probably cheaper than having the dealership do it, considering the hassle and an added tow charge. Get estimates from both, but let them know the whole story. Hang in there...

Yeah I guess ill go the locksmith route. The guy said he could do it between 125-150. And the only GM dealer around here is idiotic. I think we had more problems with my step dads 2003 Silverado than when it went in

2001NBMz28, thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it.
