Will the 8.8 work on a f body while still keeping the abs and all the other stock stuff, will i need a custom drivshaft, i seen a 99 to 04 mustang gt at a salvege yard with a good rear in it and was wondering if i could put it in my trans am and if it would be cheaper then a 12 bolt

It can be done, but probably more expensive than a 9" or 12 bolt

SUX2BU has an 8.8 in his LS1 car

Sux2BU why do you say waste of time, lets hear your problems?

I know Cablebandit is running an 8.8 and has been for awhile and runs 9.5s in the 1/4 . He hasn't ny problems with his. This will be the route I will be going bc its cheaper and can be made just as strong as the 9" and 12 bolt for alot less than $3000 . I just can't justify spending that kind of money on a rear .

thats the only problem ive ever heard of with the 8.8s. its always the torque arm bracket welds that go, but mine seem to be done very very well and havent failed yet and trust me my rear has been through hell and back. its all in how you weld that bracket i guess

Yeah welding cast iron well is a problem unless you know what you are doing. Most people don't.

I have a 8.8 but the Ta mount isn't welded . Cast iron is hard to weld what makes it worse is that you are welding carbon steel to cast iron. Not very easy to do it's hit or miss. Add in the fact cast is very porous and has been absorbing oil for years. some may get lucky with welded ta mounts but most WILL fail. The odds are against it. Save the trouble and bolt it on.
