OH I KNOW I KNOW WHAT IT DOES!!!!!!
It gets in the way of you doing anything on your engine
I really hate those things, and if I ever become motivated to take them out I think I will

AIR = Air Injector Reactor
It's like pumping air into a blast furnace; helps any unburned fuel left in the exhaust gasses burn more completely. When the engine is cold, it must run rich and there is more unburnt fuel in the exhaust, so the PCM runs the AIR pump making that dentist-drill like sound. If you don't hook it back up you can save about a $100 on race headers and eliminate the underhood clutter, but you will need to go in with LS1edit and turn off the hardware test for it or the PCM will throw a SES. It won't affect emissions testing because it only runs for a while after startup.
