Lightbulb A nice surprise , if your looking for a replacement y-pipe .........

Got tired of my SLP y-pipe hanging low, so I ordered an LG Motorsports y-pipe to see if it's a better fit...

The website stated 409 stainless, but it's even better, 304 stainless..., magnet didn't stick anywhere on it...

Website also stated 2.75" , it's 2.5" , but that's ok for me, maybe not for you...

Haven't installed it yet, so I can't say if the fit is any better than the SLP...

The driver's side of the SLP Y does hang way lower than it needs to. I asked SLP why they make them that way, and they told me it was to prevent banging the floor pan when the motor is under torque. I modified my SLP Y to tuck up close anyway and haven't had a single problem with it banging.

"it's 2.5"

Might as well put the stock Y-pipe back on.

Well it's on..
Don't know why LG Motorsports made it 1.25" longer than the stock or SLP y-pipe ??
Had to cut 1.25" off of my intermediate pipe , no big deal...
Fit is a-ok, drivers side is within 1" of body...
I have poly trans & drivers side motor mount & this clearance is a-ok , if you don't have poly mounts, you WILL be banging off the body with this y-pipe...

Now the good part, track testing...
Changes made = LG Motorsports y-pipe , & I replaced a LM intermediate pipe that was on my car , with a 2OTL intermediate pipe...
I am running the 2OTL catback, but I was still using the LM intermediate pipe from my LM system....

My track is at 1250' & the air was at it's best yesterday, 37 degrees, 33% 'H' , 30.6 pressure...

Best before was 12.93 @ 107.80
Best yesterday 12.52 @ 110.91 ??????????????????

4 tenths & 3 MPH better ???????????

Stock GSC's hook well, & 1.901 best 60' time yesterday....

Can a really good air day do things like this ????????
Does the LG Motorsports being made of '304' stainless, keep the exhaust gases that much hotter, to increase flow ???
Was the resonator in the LM intermediate hurting me ???

There must be something else going on...

Any tuners reading this thread...
Does this gain on a perfect, 'air' , day mean that I must of been running rich , or lean , to begin with ??????
I over heard a guy, with a 'carbed' ,older , Camaro, saying that his times were really good , because he has his car setup 'rich'...

My car = 1998 Z28, A4 ,3.23, GSC's, bolt on car....
JBA shortys, Mufflex catpipes w/ Random 'metallic' highflow cats, LG Motorsports 304 stainless y-pipe , 2OTL catback...
LS6 intake, 85mm Pace MAF, Jantzer TB, TSP lid, FTRA, ASP pulley , & LS1 EDIT...

I have been racing this car for 6 years & have never seen this big of a performance increase ,at one time, with any 'bolt-on' change ????

There is no way that just changing the y-pipe and catback that you will get 4 tenths and 3 mph. I'm not a drag expert, so maybe someone else can explain what is going on.

I think it was one of those times when the sun, moon, and planets all lined up in your favor. I've had good days, bad days, and everything in the middle, just part of the sport. Congrats though on your new times.

No I didn't change the whole catback, just the intermediate pipe....

I just replaced the LM, (resonator) , intermediate pipe, with a 2OTL intermediate pipe + the LG Motorsports '304' y-pipe in place of the SLP y-pipe...

Also a guy at the track said it was the best, 'air' , he has seen in 3 years at PRP...

Also I made 4 passes over 110 MPH yesterday....
