LS6 intake and stock MAF on a 370
im at a financial and moral delema with my build. i have everything else figured out for this build but the intake tract.
heres an overview
problems with my shortblock due to lack of knowledge on my part and an incompetent builder left me with a fresh(ish) ls1 shortblock with bad scratches in the cylinder walls...i have a freshly machined 6.0 block sitting in the corner of the garage ready to build, all it needs is a finish hone for piston fit. the LS1 block also needs a hone and obviously my stock bore forged pistons wont work anymore. so...
either build the LS1 and buy new pistons, or build the 6.0. with both options im sitting at the same starting point.
so i decided on the 6.0 block for obvious reasons.
i got the clutch figured out, rear end is done, heads are handled...etc
my only problem is the intake tract.
going over finances, with a baby on the way and being in college, doesnt leave me with 1300 extra bucks to drop on an intake and TB setup. it doesnt leave me with 800 for a used FAST 90/90 setup. or even 600 for the vic jr, elbow and TB...so im wondering...
if i go back an LS6 setup with ported stock TB and stock MAF, will this choke the 370 too much? the heads are mild hand ported 241's but thats it. with the pistons in it, its going to be about 11.9X compression with an MS4 cam and an excellent exhaust. by excellent i mean edelbrock stainless 1 3/4 stepped to 1 7/8 w/ 3.5 inch HVMC's to a 3 inch TSP X pipe with 40 series delta force flowmaster race mufflers dumped.
my goal for now is to break the poor 367 RWHP with my bum LS1 with TSP 5.3 heads, LS6 intake and MS4 cam w/ 11.3X compression. is this too much to ask for? someone tell me something to boost my confidince...

I hope you see more than 367rwhp from your 370..eventhough your heads are on the small side they should work well with the LS6 intake..i would go sd tune and forget about the MAF all together..Im guessing/hoping you should make about 480rwhp..our setup might not breathe all that well at the top but low and mid it should be fine..
Congrats on the baby!!!

It certainly won't be an optimal setup, but it won't completely choke it. You'll probably only be leaving 20 hp or so on the table. I think the heads are going to be limiting just as much as the intake.
BTW, you went to UNOH right? I'm probably going to do a 370 while I'm here attending too.

I'll be sure to do that. I guess I need to start looking for a 6.0 longblock! Mine is proabably going to be just as budget as yours, I may try to use 317 heads though. A buddy down in FL made 490 RWHP on a stingy dyno with some ported ones on his 408. Im going to leave my car running and just sell the stock motor when the new one is finished.
