Well, I have CME (from new) and it's a never ending chore.
I polished mine and use Mother's on the aluminum. About
a week and it's all crusty with tar / soot again (before the
cats came off, it was only dry soot). Takes a good while to
get the deposits off if I leave it for long (which I have been).

I'd think seriously about some kind of black paint, if that fit
your color scheme (silver/black, here).

Are your tips aluminum, or chrome?

When I had my SS, I took the tips them off, used various grittes of sand paper pads until they were like chrome. Then went over it with mothers aluminum polish. Even when they got dirty they were super easy to clean.

I polished mine...as long as you keep after them, they are pretty easy to keep clean. Polishing about once a week as a daily driver was enough to keep mine looking nice most of the time - polishing those takes me around 10 minutes or so.

After driving for the day, I hit the tips with a damp microfiber. I have found the longer I wait to clean them the more heat cycles the tips go through baking the build up to them, therefore I just clean them after each outing.

I also polish them about every 4 or so washes to keep them protected/sealed which also leaves a smooth finish for easier cleaning.

Has anyone tried the mothers aluminum wheel cleaner and a bristle brush?
