Default Headers and true duals on a lowered car... can good ground clearance be had?

I want to have a custom exhaust built for my 01 SS.. dual, xpipe and a cme, but every shop tells me it cant be done without serious ground clearance issues. Ground clearance is a concern to me, my current lack of it is the reason for a new system (road barrel base run over at highway speed). Does anyone have an example of dual exhaust with good pics that i can take to my builder so he can use it as a template in building my system?

Its really not hard. For max clearance go with a 2.5 kit. I had a 3 inch system on my 96 that had more clearance than stock, but i hammered the back seat area to make it work

With a 2.5" TD setup yes it can.. I have my car slammed and run with 2.5" true duals using some sweet thunder mufflers ran tight against each other like shotgun tubes with Kooks 1 7/8" headers and cats.

Here is a shot I just took of it. I replaced the cats and the paint was marking it up as a template. its much easier to mock up on the ground this way.

I have no undercarrage shots but the mufflers are tight up in the tunnel. the cats are 3" inlet and outlet that I made my own transitions to 2.5" pipe. the Drivers side I actually ovaled the pipe a bit to clear the crossmember.

An older shot of the clearance.. since this shot I tucked it up higher into the tunnel so the lowest hanging part is the cats and and the headers.

3" to the axle, into SLP dual/dual. Better clearance than stock

Oh, I de-modded the car for the owner and the complete exhaust is in my garage if you need closer/specific pics of anything

I mean you will have clearance issue but its all a matter of preference, I had mine scrape a bit on steep inclines but over all nothing major, I definitely think its worth it. I miss my TD set up so bad

Is it still considered TD if it necks into a single cat-back?

And I think ground clearance is subjective. It depends on the roads in your area and where you drive. Also if it's a DD or not.

Well that's what I'm thinking...I really like his setup and how it works, but it goes into a single. Now if it went into a single 4", that would be a bit better...but even still. Granted, it'd probably be fine for street and cut outs used when you really need the extra power...but yeah.

I have cut/notched/welded a few torque arms to create ground clearance for dual bullets under the driveshaft. Worked like a dream, be tough finding someone that's willing to do that though.
