Default TPIS intake 92mm mod, anybody got pix?

Hi All,

I'm considering sending my LS6 intake to TPIS for the 92mm mod and was wanting to see what the finished product looks like. I've emailed them a few weeks ago about a pic and never got a response back...

TIA!

You're talking about the TPIS 90, correct ?

IMO they could have done a better job with the positioning of the throttle cable bracket mount and the alignment of the snout. I cut off the bracket mount on mine and used the throttle cable mount bracket the came with my Holley 90tb, the snout on mine was also pointing slightly towards the driver side, and I also had to slightly clearance the bottom of the snout along with slightly bending the steam tube where it would contact the snout, and clearance my Holley 90tb so it wouldn't contact the water pump. For what it cost I'd suggest buying a FAST 92 intake that won't have any fitment issues, and selling your ls6 intake.
Here's some photos of the one I had.

TPIS customer service sucks...I asked them about them about the 90MM snout upgrade a while back, they never got back to me. I wouldn't hold your breath. FWIW There are plenty of pics out there on the web though. I would honestly just get a FAST 92 and call it a day, they are back in production.

Agreed. The tb size is not what chokes the ls6 intake. It's the plenum and runners. If your setup is choked by the stock ls6, this upgrade won't help much. It's still not going to carry power to the upper rpms that most cams demand.

Thanks for the pix... FWIW, I don't anticipate any choking, this will be a 416" strictly street engine, max RPM around 6500. So, I have a choice between a stock LS6 (free), the TPIS conversion (~$400), or a new FAST 92 ($850). Is there enough of a gain to justify the $$$ on a street engine?

In my opinion, with the 416, the volume of air needed to feed it vs the capacity of the intake will choke it, even limited to 6500. With the fast intake, you could see as much as a 30 rwhp gain across the board.

With the modified ls6, maybe 10 or less.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry with that upgrade. As was said before, the restriction isn't in the TB opening, it's in the plenum and runners. The FAST LSXR shines here above all other composite manifolds...

I've seen the F.A.S.T. manifolds gain 32 hp to the crank if you have it breathing right.

if the ls6 intake is free..sell it for 250-300...save the 400...you now have close to what it costs for the fast intake!

make it even sweeter by possibly finding a used one at a cheaper price...

I agree totally with you. I'm surprised TPIS is even still in business. I purchased thousands of dollars worth of parts from them years ago for an LT1 build and after the purchase customer service was near non existent. I just called them a couple times for some tech info and all I got from them was an attitude and no info they were willing to share. Last time I ever dealt with them.

OP, get the FAST 92 like 03Snake said.

Sell your ls6, you can get $300-350 for it easy.

Take that $300+ and combine with the $400 you were going to blow on the TPIS conversion and get a fast 92mm.

if it were me, id get the fast 90

i was ******* with the idea of a tpis 90 for the longest time.
but with a fast intake, you have the ability to port them to maximize your gains.

Out of the box, the tpis (according to the dyno comparisons i posted) has a slight advantage over the fast, and with better torque.

However, once you port the fast, it blows it away hands down by another 10 +/- hp.

It looks like this LS6 modded from tpis flows better then a Fast 90 but not as well as a Fast 92.

I saw the pics for the new FAST 92mm. Looks great in black!!! From the pic i saw they still
don't have a firm mounting point for the MAP sensor. It might not be an issue. But i like the way the OEM clips the sensor in place. You just a h/c setup i guess its fine. Good to see this intake. A perfect match for stock cube h/c setups.

Sell the LS6 and you will end up spending around the same for the TPIS conversion for a FAST 92.

The math on this is very simple for me. The TB you will need with the porting will be around $700. A 92 /92 combo used is around the same price, and after you sold your LS6 it would be around $900
