Default Tranny temp and water temp Gauges ??? What you running?

I'm wanting to install a tranny/water temp gauges. I'm gonna hook the trans temp up to the pressure port on tranny. As for the temp I've read there's a spot by # 8 spark plug and also behind the starter. Also on front driver side head( can you use factory sensor spot?). I've read there's a certain sensor thread/shape you need for proper install on the tranny port? I want to run digital gauges. Don't need to be top of the line but need to be reliable. So plz advise me with name/part #'s for gauges/sensors/adapters/ect? Also what location should I go with for the temp sensor? Thx

Im running Cyberdyne's red digital for mine. I installed a brass T adapter (from Home Depot) and spliced into the TB coolant line for coolant temp, and the tranny I welded a bung in the pan while i had it off one time. The gauges run about $50 apiece with the matching sending units. Mine look like these:

Pretty sure they have a lifetime warranty also. I had to send one back about a year after I bought it and they were real nice about it.

Shitty pic but you can see them here in the pillar:

I use an aeroforce scan gauge and it reads everything the computer reads. Just plug it into the obd2 port and enjoy. Most of the time Ill have it reading coolant and trans temps.

I second the Aeroforce. These things come in handy. Yes they are expensive but well worth it in the long run.

Run your tranny temp from the pan, far more accurate, 160-180* preferred

Do yourself a favor and get 2 1/8 npt bungs welded into the trans pan... One so you can drain the pan

Just had pan off to change fluid/filter lol. I hear the pressure port is a little off but that's ok. Do I need a special adapter for the port? I've read something about threads being diff shape then sensor? Where should I hook up the temp. Front of driver head/pass head/ or above starter ?

Port threads are 1/8 NPS (straight) and sending units are 1/8 NPT (tapered pipe thread). Put some teflon tape on it and dont wedge it too far in and it should be fine....

I put mine in the pan, but I'm a welder so it wasn't a big deal obviously. The pressure port will work.

I spliced mine in on the coolant crossover line going to the throttle body. Lots of people use the port on the back of the passenger head that has a plug in it.

Ok. Sorry I see you already told me that people say that's kinda hard to get to . I've read there's a spot above starter( you have to take starter off to get to it from what Ive read?) I'm gonna use one of them spots. Just wondering if one is better than the other as far as accurate reading? Thx again!

The coolant crossover line is right under the TB, would take me 2 min to tap Into..

Removing the starter is a 10x harder way of doing it

You get them at home depot in the plumbing department. You need a T, then two barbed adapters so the hoses can plug into the ends.

T:

Plug one of these in each end:

Since the T will probably 1/4, you'll need a reducer to get down to 1/8 of your sender for the third port:

Make sure you buy the correct threads. T will likely be 1/4. So your barbs have to have 1/4 threads, and make the barbed part like 3/8 or 5/16. Your top adapter will be 1/8 female to 1/4 male (reducer) and you're good to go.
