Default Gains without tuning?

Hey guys I have a quick question. I have always been told that when you install things onto your motor without a tune, you don't get anything out of it until you do. One of my friends always says that. Example: If you dyno a stock car and get 300hp and 300tq and then you install headers, cold air intake, you will not get any gains until you tune it. Is that True? I know you wont get the full "effect" until you tune it, but do you get anything before you tune it?

Yes you do get more power, but is less effective. Tune is a must for mods

Ran 12.5 in the GTO with LTs, converter and stock tune. After tune it went 12.29. Better, yes. But the car still went 12.5 untuned at 10:1 rich. It did 13.29 stock.

Tunes optimize, especially on small part swaps but on big part swaps like LTs or LS1 intake to FAST you're still going to see some considerable improvement without one.

You're right you wont get the full effect without a tune, but you can also hurt the motor or blow it up driving or beating on it untuned.... FYI

I doubt headers and a cold air intake would blow up an engine on a stock tune.

Now, throw a fast intake on and cam it where it can run lean? I'd buy that having risk.

Your car's computer will learn to a certain degree, so you will see improvement, but not what's optimum.
But, I would hold off on a tune until until you get a cam, or if your an A4, a stall converter, [3200 and up].
I had all bolt on's, plus a 3000 stall and did not get a tune until I threw in my cam.
