Default 317 heads

I have a chance to pick up a set of 317 heads from a 04 Denali 6.0 for $150. These heads worth the $150? The heads have 80k on them.

That's not a bad deal for low mileage 317's. They're going for about that to 250 where I'm from

I thought so too. I plan on only heads, cam, and intake but I am trying to find the best deals I can. Just looking to have a good weekend cruiser. Plans are a tr228 cam, 317/243/799 heads, whichever is can find the best deal on, and a LS6 intake. Car is a 2000 T/A M6. Just turned 73500 mi. Bought her in February for $5500. I think I made out pretty good on the deal.

Well the 317's are going to drop your compression when installed on an LS1. Are you planning on boosting it?

If you're keeping it N/A, I'd go with the 243 or 799 heads.

I briefly thought about a turbo the other day but I think N/A is the way I'm going.

317s have the same ports as 243s and 799s, but bigger chambers. Like stated, they will drop your compression.

Yeah if ita a more FI friendly head I'll find some 243 or 799's.Was looking around TSP's website. Think I might go with one of their packages. Know anything about their porting services? They appear to be well liked amongst the community.

I have their ported PRC 5.3 heads, and for the money I'm very happy

Well I would not over look 317s at a good price . The 243 has no real big flow advantage over the 317 especially if your going to port them, same basic port and runner design. Machine shop in my area charges $75 to mill up to .050 I would mill to say .030 and that put you in around approx. 67cc , which is Stock LS1 cr territory. So $150 for the heads and $75 to mill total $225.
