OIL IN Manifold
Hi Folks
I installed my FAST manifold and 90m TB this weekend and noticed my old intake had a lot oil in the bottom of it. I searched the thread and found out that this is a catch can made by AMW. The car/engine only has 5000 miles so why am I see a lot oil in the intake? I guess I need a catch can but don't know why - I know to catch the oil. Is there any else you do to stop it?
thanks
Bill

From my understanding, the 99 LS1 PCV system pulls from the valve covers where there is a lot of oil mist from the rocker arms...this goes right through the PCV valve and into your intake. The catch can will, as you said, trap the oil mist. You could also convert to the LS6 PCV system. The LS6 PCV pulls from the valley cover where there is less oil mist. Check out LS1howto.com for a write-up on the conversion:

MOre carbon build up in the intake ports, piston tops, spark plugs ETC. I just pulled my intake of a 99 ls1 with 52k and the intake ports were filled with carbon and my intake had some oil residue as well. If you have ported heads and get carbon build up like my heads had,,, almost brings em back to stock. Chances are anyone who has ported heads has addressed this issue already, id like to think.
Same reason why GM didnt worry about the piston slap issue, who knows...

I installed an AMW catch can on my '02 Z Stripper and it catches about a teaspoon of condensed oil every 2000 miles. If you order one from AMW order the bracket as well, it just screws to the passenger side head and you don't have to worry where to put the catch can.

I have A Greddy catch can in 98% condition with 2 new hoses. I bought this and haven't installed. I've added tons of bling to my engine and I don't want to mount this anywhere. $65 shipped anyplace. Great buy.

so would it be a good idea to put one on as preventive maintenance even if my car has 16000 miles on it?? And if so, do i need to pull the intake to clean it out or is there something else i can do to clean it out??
