Default Open Headers

I love the sound of Open long tubes(heard it on a friends car after kooks install and at LS1Sounds.com) and would like to run them myself permanately. Is this bad in any way for the car? And what are the chances that I will run in to problems with local Police?
Thanks!

Your chance of running into trouble with the cops... 100%

You'd go through O2 sensors like crazy also. I wouldn't recommend running open headers on an everyday basis. The drone and vibration would drive you crazy, and the fumes would put you to sleep.. haha

Its loud as hell man and cops dont like that, so you are going to run into trouble with them at some point. No harm will be done to your car, just the o2 sensors as mentioned.

Thanks for the input. I knew it was kind of a long shot, but I thought that I would ask.

Since you seem to like it loud, you should try using some collector mufflers. Or you could just use a bullet muffler as an extension. It would quiet it down a bit and help to protect the O2s also.

I agree. I ran open headers for about a week when i was waiting to have my duals to be built. Not only will it attract alot of attention from the cops but your going to run very rich. Two days into it i started developing raddles everywhere. I honestly thought my car was going to fall apart.

I ran open headers for 1,000 miles, and could not stand it. Like everyone has said, 02s you will have to look out for. Get some cut outs on a y pipe of go true duals and lose some.

ADD 18-20 " of pipe to headers ( this prevent the o2's from reading raw air -and allow them to work ) I run full open at the first bend in my off-road pipe, which is about 20 " from front o2's, when open engine rev faster ( I set limit @ 6800,
shift 1-2 @6600, 2-3 @ 6550 and never hit limit, BUT IF run open with same shift points , WILL jump on rev limit and go nuts,
sounds great but cops going to jump on u
my 02's , Johnny
