Default a good coolent

I was talking to the dealership to day about some stuff and started to talk about my car and he told me to get that dex-cool collent thats in the car now out of it ASAP!! he said that its the worst thing that chevy has ever come up with, it turns corrosive appently. So I drained it and filled it with water and ina few more days im going to drain that and do it again. So I want to get a good coolent for it. any recomendation?

And everyone knows that dealership service writers are all the sharpest tacks in the pile. Don't let the radiator get low so air is in it and change your Dexcool every couple of years and it will be fine.

Most of the times i have heard of people having problems with dex cool is from improper use. Like using tap water, thats a big no no and you will have problems. You have to use distilled water

fellas i've heard of this problem. a couple of years ago their was an article (in gm high tech i believe) that talked about a guy who had a newer model s-10 and the dex cool (orange coolant) corroded his block so bad the freeze plugs started leaking. also i believe the truck was only like a year or two old. shouldn't happen in that amount of time. i flushed my z and switched it to prestone. the green kind. if you do this MAKE SURE the engine is flushed really good. no orange left in there. temps have been great and everything has worked properly.

okay first you need to go to an auto parts store or wal mart and pick up the prestone coolant flush. it's in a minature yellow jug. drain the collant from the cars or trucks system. pour in the prestone coolant flush and fill with water. start car with defrost or heat on. let idle for like 5-10 mins. make sure the thermostat opens so the block will be cleaned also. after you let the coolant flush make its cycle, drain the system again. close ****, and fill with your coolant and water. i mixed mine like 2 part coolant to 1 part water.

I just had my radiator flushed and they said Dex sludges up. So they put some other stuff in-can't remember what it was. Something like "G05"

Amsoil makes a good propylene glycol coolant as well that is Dexcool compatible... it is kind of pricey, but I'm going to give it a go next time I flush the coolant in my car.

If any of you guys are interested in giving it a try, let me know... as an Amsoil dealer, I'll make sure to get the best price I can for fellow LS1TECH members. Feel free to PM me for more info and/or prices, including sales tax (if applicable) and shipping direct to your door.
