My car had a high rpm pinging problem that went away when I put in a 160 t/s along with reprogramming the fans to come on at lower temps. But I do live in Arizona so I need all the help I can get in the hot summertime here.

I bought one and decided not to use it, so I sold it on here. I figured the slp fan switch would be enough for me. If I lived in AZ or any where that its gets really hot I would of put it on though.

I agree with Lithium. If I didn't live in a place where it got hotter than HECK (hey but it's a DRY heat), I'd leave the stock t/s. My stock thermostat was at 187, so it's probalby ideal in a cooler climate. Also, as a reminder, the 160 t/s won't do you any good if you don't reprogram the fans to come on sooner.

When my fans set low with the stock stat my car never ran over 200*. After the 160* thermostat the car never runs over 190*(never really gets above 95* here). So I think it's kind of a toss up between just lowering the fans or doing both. Since your in Florida I would do it though. It's only $20 and an hour of your time.

id get it. even if you cannot program the fans to turn on sooner, you'll still see a benefit in situations where the radiator has sufficient airflow(for example, highway driving). as far as manual fan switches and stock tstats, once that thermostat closes, the fan can run all day and not get much cooler. and my experince has been that temperature is about 192 give or take a few degrees on a LS1 fbody with the stock tstat.

For $20 you can't go wrong, provided it's a good thermostat.
