k&n fpik vs. lid/ cold air
do u think it will be a worthwhile power gain either way? i have the lid/ ca now but i hate cleaning the filter bi-monthly and the fact that the lid is always rubbing the hood and coming unclipped. looking into the fipk. lets hear what u think............

I have a SLP lid and SLP CAI and have no complaints. The lid doesn't hit the underside of the hood and the CAI gives you better power once you are doing 40mph + or higher. Both made a noticeable different in engine response.

best mod for our cars is lid and cold air(ssra/ftra), it has been proven...i mean look at my times with just those mods and two other...best mods for intake besides what sux2bu has but that will involve some cutting...

I kinda find it hard to believe a lid outflows a FIPK. I have an FIPK on my 01 SS and it greatly improved the breathing over the SLP lid I had on it.Wish I hadn't thrown all that stuff away, coulda gave it to somebody.

i think if the k&n was sort of boxed in like the volant, it would be a much better intake for ram air cars.. i use to have it on a non ram air t/a and it worked good.. it comes with a dyno sheet stating 14.??? hp gain at the wheels on an m6 z28

i have the volant with ultra z hood and the baffles cut out, used to have slp lid and cai and ssra, was sick of getting the filter super dirty in that one spot where the cai forced air to the filter, performance wise they seem the same to me as fas as looks i like the volant alot better, and getting rid of that heavy slp cai was a bonus too

Can someone measure the hight of the volant box? I'd like to make a template and see if ti would actualy get close to sealing with the underside of my hood. Thanks

is there a way of cutting the baffles out of an ss hood or are they too far in there? the volant looks kinda bulky but i guess if it worked and i didnt have to clean my filter every other month it might be worth it. i have noticed how much dirtier my engine bay gets since i bought the ss. my z was never bad to upkeep. im assuming its from dirt flying in the hood.
