Stock 192 deg F stat or 160 deg F
There are many performance packages that recommend using a 160 deg F stat in place of the stock 192 deg F. I understand running a cooler stat will help prevent pre-ignition especially if you are using a more aggressive timing scheme, but does it benefit an engine that has not had the comp ratio bumped up or timing advanced? If it is a benefit why wouldn't it come from the factory with the lower temp stat? Will a lower temp stat hurt any components(the cats)? Also what is better going with a 180 deg F stat or a 160 deg stat?

I was not going to go that far down, just to 180 or 185 and I have lowered my fans to the point where they will stay on once you get moving and get good air flow without fans.
I would like to raise my spark advance, particularly at 4000 rpms and above without the Knock Retard kicking in.
