Default Replacement for BGRA (WS6 ram air spacer)

With the BG Ram Air kit no longer in production, I decided to make my own spacer to adapt my WS6 hood to my WS6 air box. Unlike the BGRA kit, mine does not need a rubber seal. Instead, I used a 1/2" composite material that I doubled-up and glued together. After much grinding and sanding to perfectly fit the contours of the lower airbox, I happily report that it works great!

I used a jig saw to cut it out and secured it with 1.5" drywall screws. The material cost was under $10.00, but please don't ask me to make any more. It was very time consuming. Bottom line, you can copy it and save $250 from buying the BGRA kit (if there are still any new ones floating around)

looks good I did the same thing along time ago except I used a piece of plywood with the hole cut to fit the airbox. It's a tight seal on it, I also used sheetmetal and bent it up so that from the grills to the air box is a straight shot. It was a lot cheaper than $250 also and works great.

I got all the material at Home Depot. I don't know what you call the material, but it's sold in 1/2" sheets that are 2x4'. It's not plywood...it's more of a composite like masonite...not fiberboard either...very smooth when cut...like solid wood, but better. The sheet was under $6.00. You'll need a jig saw, a bench grinder and a lot of sand paper to contour it all to fit. Gorilla glue to bond the pieces together and spray paint to make it look more factory. The space between the hood and the airbox is around 1". I bought weatherstripping, but didn't need it as the largest gap is less than 1/16". A little harder closing the hood now, it's that tight, LOL.

Did you cover the inside of the hood grille so there is no air turbulence and is just a straight shot or did you just cover the gap between the hood and the air box? The BGRA came with stuff to go inside the hood grille to give the air a straight shot.

Looks good, I think there was someone on here that was gonna make a "copy" of a bgra that was gonna be about 1/2 the cost and be the same type of design, but I haven't heard/seen anything about it for a long time now.

I could never figure out why tha BGRA setup was so damn expensive.. the 300 they wanted for that thing was bound to make it a short lived idea... no way in hell there was even 30 bucks of mat'l there, someone was trying to get rich quick off that one.

Patrick-

I know with a high HP car it's hard to feel small differences, but did you notice any difference with it mounted? I figure it's something that gets thrown into the "every bit counts" pile.

Yeah, I know. I so wish I had picked one up back when they were first made..... I wish a wile bunch more now that he would make another run of them. Even at 300, I'd pick one up I am sure it would help my cause. How much I dunno... but it would certainly be worth a try.

At 150 mph, I gained 2 kPa in MAP reading (during the Texas Mile). That shows a mild supercharging effect. That's a nice side benefit, but the biggest benefit IMO is that my airbox gets cool air all the time. Cooler air = more power.

Me and my dad came out with a ram air kit for WS6's that we are looking to release in a month or 2. I emailed this site about sponsorship but didn't get any response after a couple weeks so we're probably going to put them up on ebay when we make them. Price should be around ~$200. We tested the pressure increase with a water column gauge.

I fabbed a BGRA style funnel out of small sheets of black aluminum I bought a Home Depot and riveted it inside the hood. I used doubled up weather stripping for the air lid seal but I think I'll give your spacer a shot. The weather stripping likes to peel off too much. Good work!

edit..I was going to list your pics as PGRA when I saved them but I see you already did, nice touch
