True dual blues
Hey, i have some questions. i currently have hooker long tube headers and an x pipe true dual set up with borla xr1 mufflers. I need to get cats on cause my dad, im only 18, wants it to be legal and i got an emmisions notice. could i put cut outs right after the headers, then put on some cats? Then go with a y-pipe to the back and use my old xr1's in the rear and put tips commin out the rear facsia? Has anyone done anything like this? thanx

just put some cats on then kick the exhaust out the sides. you can just clamp it on there just as long as it goes out. Then it will be legal. When you are done you unclamp the exhaust and sell the cats and you are on your way.

In some states, LT headers aren't emissions legal...nor is an exhaust that dumps at the axle. You need to check into that...if they aren't legal, don't waste your money on the cats...just put some 2002 manifolds and y-pipe on with a good catback.

Here's what you neeed to do...
Just take you car as it is to the emissions testing facility. When you roll up they ask you for your registration etc. Slip the guy a $50 spot <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" /> , then tell him "I will pass right?" Use the Jedi mind trick on him. Those emission testing guys are run of the mill state workers, they get paid like $4.75 an hour <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_images/icons/tongue.gif" />
They stopped emissions in florida about 4-5 years ago. Before that I pass emissions 2 years in a row with headers and no cats. All the guy has to do is not put the sniffer all the way in the exhaust tip. And have him ignore the fact you don't have cats when they break out the stick mirror. A 50 ususally does the trick <img border="0" alt="[pimp]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_pimp.gif" />

Well i dont wanna sound like a weiner, but im 18, and what if they dont take the 50 spot? could i get in trouble? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="gr_emb.gif" /> And my pops wants me to have the car "legal" year round. so i gotta do something where i got cats on all the time, i was really just wondering if there would be enough room for the set up i originally talked about in this thread under the car.

I would just gut a pair of cats and weld them on after the long tube headers to your pops it looks like there is cats and to the cops and emissions people as well. When you take the car in change the oil a week before and put some godd gas in it should do teh trick if not pray they pass you personnally hate cats period I just gutted a pair off a stock car that was totaled and bolted them in place of mine so when emmisions comes up I just bolt em back on and they work fine.
