Will a 2001 A4 formula benefit fron mac mid lengths if i don't go with long tubes? Also, do I go with the MAC cats or select another?..Thanks

The difference between a true mid length and long tube is minimal. Uslally about 6RWHP max, though the torque gains from LT's is noticeable. My car did 399RWHP through "crappy" MAC mid headers, they must be good for something.
Here's the results from the exhaust sticky, which should be read first: http://ourworld.cs.com/jrpws6/mod+guide/macs+vs+LT.jpg
There is a decent under the curve gain from LT's but the peak numbers are basically the same.

Mac mid lengths are a good alternative to long tubes. My friend dynoed an average of 19-21 more rear wheel horsepower with them. I was very impressed with his numbers considering the low cost of these headers, not to mention they are going on 4 years and no headaches yet. He did however paint them first. My long tubes only yealded an avarage of 4 more ponies for more than twice the cost.

Go with longtubes. Yes you will see some gains with mid lengths but you will see more with longtubes. You would be leaving power on the table with the mids. Why not go LT's and get the most you can out of your car?

The goal is 11.99
I'm running 12.20 with a 1.63' now..I'm looking for an 11.99. If mids get me there that's all I want.
2001 stripper formula with a vig. 3600 and 3.23s with all the traction stuff and M/T tires.

You should be able to all day long, unless your doig somthing wrong. Two of my friends knocked off about 3-4 tenths with their mac mid lengths, and a good tune of course

OK great. Then do the mid lengths. They work great. As a matter of fact let me order some.

If you want peak power, by all means get the LT's. When I bought mine the only options were FLP's and MACs. Sorry, I'm not spending $1300+ on headers when I got the macs for under $500 brand new.
There are better priced LT's out there now but EVERY cheap LT i've installed on an LS1 car has not fit very well. Just goes to show you get what you pay for.
That aside, I just love how the LT zealots jump in and bash MAC mid headers like they are worthless garbage when in fact, they know little about them at all. For MY CAR and every car i've done installs on, the mids fit WAY better, give better ground clearance and you give up minimal power. Plus you can find a good set of MAC headers used for $200-250 shipped. You'll be hard pressed to find a set of LT's with Y pipe for that.
Now all you LT zealots can jump back on your soap box and bash the MACs all you want. I'll just sit here and admire my 400RWHP dyno graph with MINIMAL mods and my "SHITTY" MAC headers.
