Default Cleaning engine bay?

What is the best and easiest way to clean the engine bay from grease, oil, dirt??? I'v e never cleaned under the hood because it's not something everyone sees but I just installed a cam, springs, UD pulley and want to clean it up w/ new plug wires shinny intake but I need to get all of this gunk off. Does engine degreaser work if you just spray, let soak and rinse off?

i usually just use some dish soap and let it soak...then gently rinse it off.

tricky part is getting rid of the water spots...lol

I just go to the car wash and use the engine degreaser they have there and they rinse it off with the spot free rinse. I leave the engine running as well. I know alot of people say to let it cool down, but i think that when it rains it get wet also and nothing happens, but thats just my $.02.

I might try this first and then use cleaners afterwards.

I don't think I would use brake parts cleaner anywhere near the paint in my engine bay.

Just spray on some simple green and hose it down with light pressure and a scrub brush should get it clean. of course make sure the engine is cool first.

There is a sticky about it in the appearance section in the hall of fame

Brake cleaner FTW!! I had to use it to clean everything after i did the engine swap, even my brand newe FAST 90 was filthy. Brake cleaner cleaned it all up really good.

If it's really nasty, use Gunk brand Foamy Engine Brite, and scrub with a long bristled wheel brush. Make sure you rinse it all off nicely.

If it's semi-nasty, or just a regular cleaning, I use simple green diluted in water in a squirt bottle. Spray it in sections and scrub with the same brush.

The most important thing is to make sure it's ALL rinsed off nicely.

Just keep the water away from the electronics (ie. the MAF, PCM, etc.) the best you can.

Yes, this is important. That is what you have to be careful with. And dont use the high pressure at all.

I used my can of CD2 already but it worked very nicely along with tire dressing to shine up any rubber hoses and plastic, etc. I wish CD2 was easier to find; I've only seen it at an Air Force BX which is about an hour away from me.
