Question Best catback for H/C car with ORY

I just changed the heads, cam, intake, and headers on my 02 SS. I am happy with the 470hp it made at the wheels, but it is too loud to drive on the street. It has Kooks LTs, ORY and a GMMG catback. I think I am going to get a noise ticket if I continue to drive it like this. It pops really bad under the least little bit of a load at around 2K to 2.5K rpms. My question is really for people with H/C cars with LTs and ORYs. What catbacks are people with similar setups running? Magnaflow, Mufflex, Hooker, etc? I don't mind a fairly loud exhaust, but my car currently sounds about as loud as a mild big block with open headers to me. I had a resonator Loudmouth with stock headers and Y pipe before, and it was downright silent compared to my current setup. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hooker or SLP Dual/Dual. They flow just as good as any other catback and judging by your post will create a sound similair to what you are looking for. The other alternative is to add a good set of cats such as Magnaflow's.

Mufflex that son of a gun! I just put a 4" on my Heads/Cam/Nitrous/Intake/ORY and it is deep as you wouldn't believe. Actually I have an "okay" video of it. Let me see if I can find it.

Boom! Here is the thread with pics and info and video. https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-external-engine/677600-exhaust-change-up-now-w-pictures.html

I have since pulled all of it off and black ceramic coated it. Car is a lot quieter than previous dynomax dumped setup. There are pics of before and after as well.

magnaflow, no cats with H/C = RASP CITY!
hooker, no cats with H/C = BADASS!
GMMG, no cats with H/C = "glasspack" sound =
GMMG WITH cats, & H/C = very nice

no cats = less weight & more power which is want I want so I went with the hooker and Im very glad I did. plus its no that expensive and flows extremely well.

I went from the 80 series slowmaster to a 40 series with single outlet and it made mine much more street friendly after the H/C. But then I got tired of it not being as loud so I went with TDs and I love it!!!!

Thanks for the info, everybody. I agree that the GMMG with ORY sounds like glasspacks on an old fourwheel drive truck. And, yes I still have the GMMG on the car. I will probably sell it when I get another catback, but I am not taking it off for a week or two until I can afford another catback.

So the Magnaflow is raspy with an ORY, and the Hooker sounds good? How does the Hooker flow? Will it cost me HP on a pretty hot H/C car? How loud is the Hooker with an ORY, similar to a resonator Loudmouth with cats?

Thanks again.

Personally, I think the Dual/Dual is the best sounding exhaust when using an ORY.

It will be pretty quiet until you really get on it and it flows well.

The hooker catback is one the the best flowing of all the catbacks which is another reason I wanted it. From what Ive seen, people are only loosing 4-7rwhp through the hooker catback compared to their cutout. To me thats pretty damn good.

Thats what i have. It's a little louder than stock though the stock exhaust, but people don't even think anything is done to the car. That is untill i open the cutout and it's lope city. It's nice being able to close it when a cop pulls next to you and he doesn't even look over.

I had the Hooker catback with ory and an electric cutout on my car. At first I ran it all the time with the cutout open, but got tired of the unrefined sound. IMHO, the cutout only sounded good at idle, WOT, and if you accelerated VERY slow. If you tried to drive around semi aggressive, just getting on it a little bit, rolling into it at part throttle, it sounded like ***. So I decided to shut it and see how I liked it through the Hooker. It was immediately too quiet for my liking after being used to the volume the cutout produced. I took it for a spin and it was definately down on power. I opened the cutout again, and began my plans for true duals.

Now I have the power and sound I want, and its there all the time. I can tell you that my setup will definately be too loud for your goals, but I think the Hooker will be what your looking for. Get a cutout for when your racing or at the track.
