Default Starter tab broke off!

Is there any way to weld the starter tab back on? I went to start my car and it turned over for about half a second then nothing. Looked under the car and saw the starter just hanging. The outer most ear/tab on the block broke off as well as the opposite tab on the starter. The starter is obviously no big deal because I can just buy a new one...it sucks but at least it is an easy fix. This totally sucks because my car has been down for 2 years while I have been changing the setup then I am finally ready to fire it up and this happens.

Thanks
BPD

Mine done the same thing , it broke off the outer tab on the starter and the block, Just lucky me i work in a fab shop and Tig welded it back on and then i got a truck starter that has the two long bolts(stronger housing), instead of our (weak)one long and one short bolt.

common thing to happen. i dont know if i would trust a weld on the tab..u dont want your flywheel teeth getting all chewed up if it doesnt hold.

A weld is stronger that what your welding to ,it they know how to prep the surface and weld!! Mines been welded for a year now and its steal holding just fine. I just cant see spending 1000.00 + for a new block for a 100.00 weld

oh my mistake. i thought the piece that broke was actually a piece of the starter. i thought he meant the first tab the bolt goes through...the piece on the starter

The ear on the starter broke as well as the block. I just took some pics so I am going to try and post them.

Did you guys have to completely remove the block from the car? It looks like if I remove the header there will be enough room in there for the tig torch.

That's the same thing mine done. Do you have the piece that came off the block? And no i did not haft to remove my headers to weld it. there enough room under there to get a tig torch in there.

In other words its cast aluminum, That's what it looks like when it pored in a mold ,Forged aluminum is done with vacuum to pull the air bubbles out ,The block can be welded if prepped right ,Ive done it and it holding just fine
