Default Long Tube VS Shorty Headers

My next mod will be headers. Now I, want the longtubes but my Z is dropped 2 inches. Will I have clearance problems if I go with the longtubes? I know the shorties would be perfect for my situation, but I want more HP

You probably will have clearance problems with that much of a drop (if you use longtubes). I read in High Performance Pontiac last month that, according to several LS1 experts, shorty or mid-length headers are practically worthless on an LS1. So your best bet is to either spend the header cash on something else or get rid of those lowering springs.

MAC Midlengths may be a good compromise, but check out TPIS Longtubes, they claim to have good clearance.

karkrazie626, I see you live in CA. Where are you planning on getting your car smogged, bc if you get LT headers then it won't pass CA visual test, something about moving the cats. Thats all that is stopping me from LT headers. Also, do you scrap all around town with a 2" drop and did you notice much of a handling diff with the new springs?

LTs are going to be a problem with that much of a drop, so I say get some Macs because they give the best bang for the buck and are way better than any shortie.

Thanks for the great suggestion evryone.. My drop is more like 1.75 inches, and feels fine. I only worry about the big dips and very steep drive ways.

Agreed the MAC's are good. If getting MAC's one might want to replace the MAC cats with better cats. The MAC cats flow less than stock cats.
