Default LS6 Heads and Cam

Will I have any trouble passing emissions tests If I install LS6 heads and cam? Massachusetts freeking sucks when it comes to emissions. Second only to CA. GM says the heads are only emissions legal on 2002-2003 Corvettes. However, the same was said about my skip-shift eliminator. Are there different emissions levels allowed given the model of vehicle or just the amount of cylinders? Thanks!

Dave

You have to have no codes to pass in MA. They dont do the sniffer they just hook into the diagnostic port and check for codes. If you have none and the readiness tests are done you are all set. People pass with way bigger cams than that.

I live out in Hubbardston. This is where you say... "Where is that?" It's out west near Gardner. About a half hour from Worcester.

I have plain 243's and a TR224 cam. If I was you I'd get some nice CNC ported heads from one of the sponsors. I wish I had. I was trying to save some $$ but I should have just done it right.

The car runs very well. My dyno numbers are on the low side, I thought I might get maybe 10hp more peak than I got. I bought the 243s off ebay then had a local shop do a valve job and cut the decks 0.015" to increase the compression a little. They also did some minor hand porting and bowl blending. In the end I spent near what I would have on a 'budget' stage II CNC port from a sponsor. Here's my graph, the blue is with lid, SSRA, headers, cat back & ported TB. The red includes 243's, TR224 & UD pulley. And I installed everything myself so that could also explain the low dyno number.

I think the TR224 is a little bigger than the LS6 cam, isn't it? And my 243's weren't exactly stock - decked 0.015", some minor hand port and bowl blend by the engine shop. I thought I might get to 400hp, guess not. Anyway I think getting a set of CNC stage 2 budget heads is a better plan than what I ended up doing.

Fyi, my car is an 01 so it has the LS6 intake.

I'd also recommend going with a CNC'ed pair of LS6s. Sure you save money with pure stockers, but I'm not sure if the small gain was worth it on my car. I made 340 RWHP with whats in my sig...I can't decide whether I should be disappointed or not to be honest.
