car eats oil !!
I've notice that my car consume oil..it has 130k
car has black smoke when start (sometimes) I think it's fuel according to rich*
one more thing..there is an opening at the end of the right valve cover..I think there has to be a hose in there..but it's an open hole..and I can see some oil at the bottom of the hood
what's that hole ? is it PCV system ? is it the problem that cause the oil consumption ?
fyi ..air+egr are deleted
THANKS in advance

Yes for PCV, how much oil consumption, most us LS1 guys suffer from it.

Just need to put new hose(s) on, if you want to do the catch can thats cool, but it does not attach there, it attaches between the lines that T together between the valve covers ( the one your missing ) and then the other end of the catch attaches to to PCV unless you get a catch with a built in PCV then you attach that hose to the nipple on the intake where the PCV is now.
You just need a piece of hose, but make sure its tranny line or fuel line, vacuum line will deteriorate because of the oil, it works but the other lines last longer.

Car eats a quart of oil every 300-400 miles (ran it low on oil a few
years ago.) I’ve just been adding a quart of 10W30 (hi-milage) every
week or so. (I don’t want to spend the big $$ to get it fixed, so I’ll
just keep driving it for a while longer, then sell it what whatever
someone is willing to pay.)
Now, giving the oil consumption rate, I’ve been adding several quarts
of oil between oil changes, and so, if you think about it, the engine
always has pretty fresh oil in it So, how often should I be taking
it in for an oil (and filter) change? Use a less frequent interval?
Or perhaps the ‘regular’ interval because the filter is getting extra
dirty.

so by adding a catch can the problem will be solved ?
what does a catch can do ??

1.Buy the PCV hose and valve from the dealer - it comes as a set and it is fairly cheap
2.Buy the hoses, Ts, and valve and set it up yourself.
The hoses go from the TB air filter side to the pass side valve cover, then from the rear of both valve covers to the PCV valve and then to the intake.
A catch can would go between the PCV and intake and serves to separate the oil from the air so you are not pulling oil into the intake.
1 quart of oil for 2-3k miles is about normal for the LS1s.

the hose you are missing goes across the back off the driver side valve cover over to the passenger side, if I remember there is a T, more like a Y fitting that brings the two valve cover hoses together and makes one hose that goes to the PCV at the front passenger corner of the intake.
All you have to do is get the right size hoses a Y fitting to put the hoses from each cover to each other then run one hose to the PCV, if you run a catch you would hook that one hose to the tank and the other hose our of the tank to the PCV what that does is the oil that gets sucked into those hoses that causes some of the oil burn off falls into the can and gets "caught" there instead of being introduced into the combustion chambers.
research catch cans, I prefer breather tanks there is a difference and most people mix them up, a breather tank has a filter on top that allows pressure to vent to atmosphere, a catch can is sealed.

This is how the stock pcv system looks so you will know
A catch can won't reduce oil consumption, it just captures oil and other stuff from getting back into the intake and dirtying up the engine, while still releasing crankcase pressure.
