Default main bolts reuse,torque?

What is the process, for reusing the main bolts. Is there anything on the threads from the factory. Do you torque then use angle? Any advice will be appriciated.thanks JC

I personally wouldnt reuse any main bolts or headbolts for that matter. Those are what they call a torque to yield bolt and arent meant to be reused. Bolts are relatively inexpensive so thats the route i would take but its up to you.

What if you want to check bearing clearances? Bolts are torqued up? Do you Get new ones every time? I am assembling a close to stock engine. On my race engine i used all ARP hardware (studs) so this was not a issue. The engine that is mostly stock will be used for back up,i really do not want to spend the money on studs. Is there a alternative bolt that can be purchased. Thanks JC

I definately got different different torque numbers than that link when I looked them up when I worked at the dealership. It said to torque the inner to 15 ft lbs and then 80 degrees and the outer to 15ft lbs and the 51 degrees. The rod bolts were different too. 15ft lbs and then 85 degrees.

The outer M8 bolts are the only main bolts that are torque to yield. I have built many engines with this theory. Nothing bad has ever happened. Head bolts are def. TTY though.

Tighten the M11 cylinder head bolts (1-10) a first pass in sequence to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
Tighten the M11 cylinder head bolts (1-10) a second pass in sequence to 90 degrees using the J 36660-A .
Tighten the M11 cylinder head bolts (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) to 90 degrees and the M11 cylinder head bolts (9 and 10) to 50 degrees a final pass in sequence to using the J 36660-A .
Tighten the M8 cylinder head bolts (11,12,13,14,15) to 30 N·m (22 lb ft). Begin with the center bolt (11) and alternating side-to-side, work outward tightening all of the bolts.

You are supposed to clean the threads with tap and die and blow out the holes. Adding oil will change torque values and isn't the correct way. The new bolt have the thread locker on it they want you to use,
