230+ duration cam cars.. how useable is 6th gear?
I'm trying to decide on the rear gearing for my setup, and will be going with at least a g5x2 cam. What is the lowest rpm that the car likes to see in 5th and 6th gear? I'm looking at 4.10's and with my 285/30/18 tires that would put me at 1500rpm's for 55mph, and 2000 at 70. Seems like the big cams wouldn't want to pull that without protest.
Thanks
Thanks

I have the G5X2 and 3.42s. I can cruise in 5th or 6th down to ~1200 rpms before I get any hassle. It does start to buck some in the lower gears though.

Thanks guys.. Brains, I'm going with a cam just a few degrees give or take what you have, so that's some good info. Thanks again,

My 230/224 only misbehaves at under 1200rpms in 1st gear. Every other gear is fine. My aluminum flywheel exaggerates the problem too.

my F1 cam will do pretty much anything the stock cam did after a great tune. It will pull fine from 1000 RPM in any gear

6th gear is just fine to use anywhere i would use the stock gear. the real problem is cruising real slow in 1st or 2nd. while it's not that bad, it will buck if left in gear and just a small amount of throttle is applied. like while driving in a parking lot. you just end up letting the clutch out to go, and then pushing it in as soon as you're done on the gas.

I see some slight bucking while driving through school speed zones (15mph). But it's very manageable. Elsewhere, no probs.
