If your going to buy one I would try to stick to anything below 50K miles specially if your thinking of modding. The LS1 based engine can run a good 200K+ miles if maintenance is done as scheduled.

If you buy one go for the lowest mileage possible...i.e. 50k or less

I'am just going to use the engine to drive the car and leave it stock other then headers and a stall till i build the other engine. I just dont want to buy one with high miles and have it die in a few weeks . No need for two dead engines.

why dont you rebuild what you have? probably will cost the same as buying a used one. and then you got a new motor

I got one used with 150k on it. I pulled it down and the bearings looked new. No ridge in the bores. Much different than an old smallblock.

dang evan..what you gona do with the car? she ok?

My SS has 126k on it, its still like a new car.

I agree that 200k plus miles isn't a problem on these motors. Seems like the trans (either one) takes a crap way before the motor if you take care of it

Yea man she is good.. She would get dizzy every once in a while for the first 2-3 days afterwards. She had a couple bruises and what not, but nothing compared to what could have happened.
As of now it is still up in the air, waiting to see what the Ins. says. Probably part out, or better, sell as a whole.

If you're going to just leave it stock, you could go with a 5.3 for around $500 to keep it mobile on the cheap.

SO what are you really asking here?

Are you trying to set a limit on mileage to the engine you buy?
The thing is the engine is only as good as it was taken care of. If someone didn't change the oil and thrashed it, it could be ready to crap out at 60k miles on it or it can run with good maintenance for a very very long time..We've seen 200k on this board many many times so.... that I am saying is there are no guarantees with a used engine as to how long it will last. You cant tell by the mileage if its been abused and neglected.
