mystery engine?
So i went to install arp rod bolts for my engine thats going into the lt1 car.
When i took the original rod bolts out and the cap off the bolts wouldnt come out. it took a ratchet to get them out like they were threaded.
after getting them out, i noticed a dowel that was in the cap. it looks like the ones that go on the end of a a rod to line up the cap?
i havent seen them on any other ls1 engines? and idk why they are in there, a couple came out and stay on the bolt?
can any one shed any light on this?
the engine came out of a corvette. it has 853 heads.

They are more commonly referred to as rod bolt ferrules on this site. IIRC they were only used on the late 2000 and up engines. You need to pull all of them out of the caps before installing the ARP's. If you search for ferrule you should see plenty of threads on this subject.

My 04 LQ4 had these also. I installed ARP bolts but you must take the ferrules out cause the ARP has a beveled edge next to the head of the bolt that centers itself on the rod cap and doesnt have the room for these ferrules... I couldn't get my ARP's in without taking these out so it only made sense to me to take them out.
I just took one of the old rod bolts and tapped the others out lightly with a mallet.
