Default looking for stock block ls1 to h/c ls2/402 experiences...

My stock ls1 is tired and I'm real tempted to go with an ls2 402.

I've already got the fast90/ls2 tb, vararam, long tube headers, etc and don't want to replace those. I've also got a set of gmpp ported 243's and a medium-ish cam that never got installed that I was planning to use on the new motor.

What do you guys think? This car is strictly a daily driver and part of me says to just get one of the crate ls6's from scoggins and call it done. It spends 90% of it's life freeway commuting at 75'ish in sixth, so it's not like a track screamer will get much exercising.

I'd sure appreciate any feedback. I'd love to go up to a 427, but I just can't justify the extra money it would take to replace all the external parts to match.

Thanks,
Dan

you can buy a 427 from Katech in ls1 or ls2 block. they even have a 500 cubic inch billit block that will bolt right in your f-body. they built the first 427 f-body in country. Katech is the leader in ls technology for the C5-R racing program. youtube katech to see some of there vettes. Remeber all ls engines will bolt in your car, some will need wire adapters and some wont. Any LS1/Ls6 engine will bolt directly in your car just be sure the engine is 2004 and older so you wont need any wire adapters

Nice setup, allngn! I don't have the budget to do the tasty bits you have, but I'm glad to see that those kind of torque figures are possible with "just" 400 ish cubes.

You wanna hear something funny? I live less than 30 minutes away from Vengeance and have never been there. Keep meaning to go but just haven't.

Well whats stopping you ? Go meet Ron and talk about your build and find out what it can and can't do in his opinion and ask for suggestions.

Well, I like doing my own wrenching and wouldn't feel right mooching their expertise when I don't plan to have them do the work.

You sound like a stand up guy man. Do you have anything to buy ? If you do then buy it from Vengeance and you won't feel bad about asking Ron questions. Vengeance Racing price matches any advertised price so you won't over pay at Vengeance !!

Id go for the 402...FWIW Fifedogg here on tech has a 00 Camaro with a 402 shortblock, standard stage 1 243s and an MS3 cam with an unported FAST 92 and still made over 500rwhp, and the car runs beautifuly and pulls like a frieght train.
