Default Is there a LS specific cam degree kit?

I have never degreed a cam before and I am needing to buy a kit. Is there any difference in the kits?

Also, if a guy wanted to change the ICL on a cam how would that be done?

Thanks.

They're all basically the same, except the larger diameter wheels are thought of as more accurate since there is more distance between tick marks. They sell adapters to center the wheels on different crank snouts, locating off of the keyway, but since the LSx doesn't have a keyed crank snout for the balancer, most just center the wheel on the crank bolt. You could just eyeball it, or have a spacer made.

To change the installed centerlines of a cam, you'd have to have an adjustable timing set. The lower gear would typically be marked so that you can advance or retard the camshaft in increments of 2 degrees.

Thanks for the reply KCS. Predator Z suggested changing the ICL on my TR230 cam so it won't be as peaky. I bought an adjustable timing set from Yank but its just adjustable on the camshaft not the crank gear.

Thanks again.

That should work just fine.

Mine doesn't do that, just the top.

They make a special socket that uses the oil pump spline to rotate the motor and it mounts the degree wheel. Sold by Comp.

That's why I said typically the lower gear is marked. The only ones I've seen with the adjustable top gear are the Cloyes, and belt drives. Rollmaster, NMotion, Manley, and Pro Gear all have the bottom gear indexed. I think the Comp timing set does too, but also incorporates an offset bushing.

That's cool, I didn't realize anyone was making one for LS1's yet.

I found this. It comes with the LS socket and other stuff.
